Q&A with Maya Washington, director (4/20 only)
Director: Maya Washington
Sponsored by: Jim Engster and 89.3 WRKF-FM

Michigan State University’s integration story and impact on race relations in college and professional football in the United States has never been told on film… until now. In 1963 MSU’s Head Coach Duffy Daugherty Hall of Fame coach gave 23 young African American men the opportunity of a lifetime by recruiting players from the South, a revolutionary approach that came to be known as the “Underground Railroad” of college football. This heartfelt documentary by the daughter of Vikings legend Gene Washington explores their father-daughter relationship and reveals how the first fully integrated college football team changed the face of the game forever.
