New Voices/New Visions * Chile * 80 min

Director: Cristóbal Valenzuela Berríos
Producers: María Paz González and Adriana Ferrarese
Sponsored by: Becky & Warren Gottsegen

This audacious and lively debut feature documentary from Chile is an intellectual thriller that constantly surprises the viewer with unexpected detours into art, criminal psychology, and Chile’s fascist legacy. When Santiago’s Fine Arts Museum mounted a retrospective of the works of sculptor Auguste Rodin in the summer of 2005, no one could have predicted that one of the master’s most celebrated works, Torso of Adele would go missing, only to be quickly “found” in a nearby park by local art student Luis Emilio Fabres. What at first appeared to be nothing more than a prank made Santiago the center of a debate on the nature of art itself. With the participation of the troubled young thief, co-writer/director Cristóbal Valenzuela Berríos revisits the scene of the crime.
